Learning to trust the professional and their process.
Until recently, I was in desperate need of a new headshot—mine was over 10 years old! 😱
But I wasn’t going to book just anyone; it had to be the right fit.
Almost magically, a friend shared Avonne Photo Studio’s Facebook post about their Color Brand Mini sessions. I checked the details, my availability, and booked an appointment, adding a makeup artist to ensure I looked my best.
To plan my outfit, I chatted with Avonné about my vision for the shoot and her recommendations. Then, my fashionista sister Julie and I spent an afternoon at Macy’s picking the perfect ensemble. 🛍️
For the finishing touches, I scheduled an eyebrow wax and pedicure to ensure I felt confident for the shoot.
On the big day, Shajara welcomed me to Avonné’s cool, loft studio in downtown Monroe. We chatted as she transformed my look in front of a Broadway-style, brightly-lit makeup mirror. 🤩
After dressing, I had my first good, long look in the mirror and
my heart fell…
I had WAY too much makeup on and the fake eyelashes weren’t me!
My mind raced. Should I ask Shajara to remove the eyelashes? Would I look completely overdone in the photos?
I’d spent so much time, thought and energy preparing for this day. Was it going to be ruined by heavy-handed makeup?
Feeling unsure but ready, I walked out to Avonne and Shajara. They immediately gushed about how beautiful I looked. Despite my concerns, it felt great to hear their compliments.
I took a deep breath and said, “I think I have too much makeup on.”
Avonné quickly reassured me, explaining that extra makeup is necessary for the camera flash. Shajara agreed, reminding me that because I rarely wear makeup, it’s just unfamiliar.
Avonné promised that if I wasn’t happy with my photos, she’d tone down the makeup in Photoshop. That was just the reassurance I needed. I gave the thumbs up, and we proceeded with the shoot.
And you know what, they were absolutely right! 💯
I was blown away when I saw my gallery of images! Each time I look at them, I stand a little taller and feel more confident. Avonné and Shajara truly helped me step into my best self!
